Abstract

This cross-national study investigates the relationship between social media consumption patterns and levels of political polarization among young adults in diverse democratic contexts. Utilizing survey data and content analysis of social media platforms, the research aims to identify specific social media behaviors (e.g., echo chamber effects, exposure to misinformation) that contribute to or mitigate political fragmentation. The findings will provide a nuanced understanding of social media's role in shaping political attitudes and offer recommendations for promoting civic engagement and critical media literacy among youth.
